How to Set Up an Internet Connection in Thailand
The telecommunications system is expanding rapidly in Thailand with plenty of health competition. Fixed line, modem, broadband, mobile and wi-fi networks are all available in Thailand.
Fixed Line telephone
The major fixed telephone line providers are:
| Provider | Website | Call Centre |
|---|---|---|
| TOT | Link | 1100 |
| TT&T | Link | 1103 |
| True | Link | 02 900 9000 |
TOT is the main government run network. True also provide cable/satellite TV and mobile, so can provide a discount for setting them up together.
ADSL Broadband Internet Connection:
| Provider | Website |
|---|---|
| TOT | Link |
| True Move | Link |
| TT&T | Link |
| Hutch MBI (Mobile Broadband Internet) |
Link |
| Qnet | Link |
| Samart | Link |
| CS Loxinfo | Link |
| Pacific Internet | Link |
| ANET | Link |
True is perhaps the most well-known and reliable of the providers.
Note: You can find these internet providers at the major shopping malls. True can be found on the ground floor or Fortune Tower Shopping Mall in Ratchada (take the MRT Stop: Rama 9). You may have problems connecting to some houses or condos. You need to check with the companies first to see if you can be connected. You will also need a letter from the landlord for houses.
Bills
Bills are normally monthly and you can pay at 7/11, at the bank, through internet banking, credit card or at the relevant office.
Wi-Fi Hot spots
You can find wi-fi hotspots (often run by True) at most of the major shopping centres and Starbucks. You will need to purchase some prepaid credit and obtain a password. Alternatively you can register with True. You will find free wi-fi in some tourist cafes, bars or pubs.
