How to Set Up Your Mobile Phone in Thailand

Firstly, if you have a mobile phone, you will need to get it unlocked, so that you can use it in Thailand. You can get your phone unlocked and you can buy an array of both new & used mobile phones on the 3rd floor of MahBoonKrong (MBK) shopping centre (which is at BTS stop: National Stadium), one stop from Siam.

You can then buy a SIM card there or at most mobile phone shops for about $10. You then pay 1 Baht – 5 Baht per minute depending on the provider.

The main service providers are:

Provider Website Call Centre
AIS Link 1175
DTAC Link 1678
True Move Link 1331

Types of Payment:

Pay As You Go (Prepaid)

You can buy these cards from 7/11’s and supermarkets. They start from 50 baht to 500 baht

Registered Account

You will need a work permit and a passport to set up this type of account

Lost mobile phones:

If possible you should try to register your phone number with your provider, so that if you lose your mobile, you can get a replacement telephone number. You can still do this with a pre-paid card with some providers.
